At the Cologne Biocampus, Lonza Bioscience Solutions employees develop and market non-viral gene transfer products for primary cells and cell lines that are difficult to transfuse. Primary cells represent the state and behavior of cells within organisms more precisely than the cell lines usually used in laboratories. That is why they are important model systems, both for basic and clinical research. Using Lonza's Nucleofector™ technology, the functionality of various genes in these biologically relevant cell types can be analyzed. The results help to identify potential new pharmaceuticals and therapies, for example to combat cancer or cardiovascular diseases.

Cologne is also the German sales center for Lonza's other business areas. From here, customers are served in a wide range of areas such as endotoxin analysis, water treatment, personal care, health and hygiene, industrial preservation, material protection, wood treatment, nutrition and agriculture.
